Get Help at Vocational School

Your child may need some help getting used to life after high school. Here's what you can do to help your child adjust to work and school.

Get help for special needs.

  • Make sure everyone at the vocational school is aware of your child's special needs.
  • Share with your child's teachers and counselors any information about your child's hearing loss that you think may help.
  • Tell them if your child needs a hearing aid or uses special equipment.
  • Talk with the people at the vocational school to find out how they plan on communicating with your child.
  • Ask them about getting special services, like an interpreter.
  • Educate others about deafness.

Let your child know that you are there to help. Ask your child what she needs help with. Check in with your child to see how she's doing.

Here's what your child can do to help herself:

Get help with work.

  • Ask the tutors at the study center to help with homework.
  • Talk with your teachers about what to study and how to catch up.
  • Use a planner or calendar to write important things down.
  • Ask an older brother, sister, or cousin for help with school work.
  • Find out what skills and knowledge you need for your job.

Get help with problems.

  • Talk to the school counselor about any problems.
  • Ask your vocational rehabilitation counselor for career advice and study tips.
  • Ask your employer about job training.
  • Get involved with clubs, sports, and activities.
  • Make friends and learn new skills.
